Volunteers of the Year: 2012

Namit Joshi Namit Joshi, a Cisco technology expert, has volunteered as a MOUSE Squad instructor for two years, at Sunnyvale Middle School and Dartmouth Middle School in San Jose. Namit demonstrates his increased commitment by also serving as a member of the MSCA Advisory Council. His enthusiasm for technology inspires and engages students through hands-on learning activities. Sunnyvale MS Literacy Teacher, Linda Arms wrote, "Namit is an absolute asset. His MOUSE Squad students gain confidence and teachers report that several MOUSE Squad students are more attentive and have developed positive team working skills."
Hilary Naylor Hilary Naylor, a technology consultant, has been a MOUSE Squad supporter and advocate since 2006. For the past two years, she has been volunteering with MetWest High School in Oakland, and serves on our Advisory Council. Edgar Nunez, MetWest HS MOUSE Squad instructor wrote, "Hilary's expert knowledge and charisma make her an a invaluable role model. Her commitment extends beyond the classroom as she connects our students to outside resources. With her support, our students have been able to connect technology with real-world application."
Nicole Sekek Nicole Sebek, an IBM engineer, has volunteered with MSCA as an instructor for three years, first at Dartmouth Middle School and then at Green Scholars. She also serves on our Advisory Council, demonstrating her commitment to enhancing our volunteers' experiences. Greene Scholars Facilitator, Christina Thompson, expressed, "Since the very beginning, Nicole's passion and dedication has been outstanding. She is always finding inventive ways to teach the MOUSE Squad students about technology, science and math. Her rapport with them is amazing."

Volunteers of the Year: 2011

Suzanne Rivoirs Suzanne Rivoire, Assistant Professor of Computer Science at Sonoma State University, has volunteered with MOUSE Squad for two years as an instructor at Novato High School. Rey Mayoral, principal at Novato High says, "Suzanne has been extremely helpful in providing the leadership and guidance to move technology to another level at NHS. Her hands on approach and willingness to work with our students is appreciated by staff, parent and students." As her MOUSE Squad students add, "Dr. MOUSE Lord rules!"
Morgan Wilson Morgan Wilson has volunteered for the past two years with MOUSE Squad at Balboa and John O'Connell High Schools in San Francisco. Molly Lazarus, MSCA instructor wrote, "Morgan holds very high professional standards and is continually striving to raise the level of service of our MOUSE Squad. He stresses the importance of careful work and commitment, and is a patient, dedicated teacher." A student expressed, "Morgan is a really intelligent guy and he helps us to achieve in the technological world."

Volunteers of the Year: 2010

Dan Chan Dan Chan, a Xilinx engineer, has volunteered with MOUSE Squad for two years, first as co-instructor at Oster Elementary School in San Jose last year, and now is instructor at Dartmouth Middle School in San Jose. He says of MOUSE Squad, "Computer In A Box and the other hands-on activities really get the kids engaged and help the students become more interested in computers and technology."
Louie Lu Louie Lu volunteers as a MOUSE Squad instructor at Fischer Middle School in San Jose. Principal Nancy Gutierrez says, "Fischer students are very lucky to have Louie, our Rambus engineer, as a volunteer for the past two years. He is very enthusiastic in teaching our students about technology, like identifying parts of a computer, ghosting laptops and exploring inside a Play Station 3."
Vinay Verma Vinay Verma, a Xilinx engineer, has volunteered for two years at Oster Elementary School, a Xilinx Educational EcoSystem sponsored school. Last year, he was co-instructor and this year is lead instructor with volunteer, Helene Eichler. Dawn Ullmark, Oster ES 4th grade teacher wrote, "Thank you for all the time that you give to these kids, I can't stress how important it is and what it means to them."

Volunteers of the Year: 2009

Doug DeFrees Doug DeFrees, IBM volunteer, was instrumental in IBM sponsorship of MOUSE Squad at Los Arboles Elementary stating, "The IBM Silicon Valley Employee Driven Fund Council is excited to continue its support of MOUSE Squad. Teaching useful skills to students, which they get to apply in service to their school, is a winning proposition for all." As a volunteer, Doug applies his engineering knowledge to enhancing the Los Arboles' MOUSE Squad students' experience and understanding of technology concepts.
Alan Schaevitz Alan Schaevitz maintains the MOUSE Squad of California website. Drawing on his experience as a volunteer, he has provided many web design insights as well as technological expertise as we planned and developed our new site. Alan's contributions to MSCA are invaluable. Alan provides his service to MSCA with much attention to detail and commitment to excellence. We are fortunate that Alan has remained just a click away for the past four years.

Volunteers of the Year: 2008

Matt Hill Matt Hill has been a volunteer at Chinatown Beacon Center in San Francisco for two years. CBC's MOUSE Squad instructor, Tim Fung said "Matt has been an inspirational volunteer and role model for the MOUSE Squad students." Matt has shared his knowledge as a programmer for AT&T and given CBC students a greater understanding of the world of technology. Thank you, Matt.
Sidharth Vajirkar Sidharth Vajirkar has been a volunteer with MOUSE Squad for two years. At Luther Burbank School in San Jose, Sid has made a significant contribution to their program by taking an active leadership role. Also a Cisco employee, Sid applies his engineering knowledge and skills to enhancing the students' understanding and experience. Thank you, Sid.
David Wickemeyer David Wickemeyer has volunteered over 50 hours at Union Middle School in San Jose this year. He is an equal and respected partner of their MOUSE Squad. David's extensive experience, broad knowledge and talents have greatly impacted the MOUSE Squad. His friendly, positive demeanor and sense of humor create a welcoming environment for all. Thank you, David.
