The New MOUSE Squad eLearning

Over the last year, we've experimented with lots of tools to support our MOUSE Squads--we used a blog for announcements, mailing list software, and surveymonkey for surveys.  We also introduced the MOUSE Squad Certified Technician program so that we could guarantee a consistent high-quality student experience--and the quizzes required for certification were paper-based.  We heard from our community --that's you-- that you wanted to be able to keep track of things online--this site, currently a beta, is our response.

What is a beta?

Well, it's software that's still being worked on.  The new MOUSE Squad eLearning site is very much a work in progress.  Over the coming months (and years) we'll be adding content and new features.  Our goal is to make the certification curriculum come alive online--for students, teachers and trainers.  This version of the site includes the most basic features--like student quizzes for MOUSE Squad Certfied Trainers but also a "Pre-Assessment" so that you can check your knowledge on a range of tech skills and then compare them when you re-take the assessment to see how you've progressed and identify areas you still want to improve.

We're approaching building this site iteratively, which is a fancy way of saying that we're going to be making lots of little improvements over time.   We will need your help to make this site better--if you spot something that's not right, have an idea or a suggestion please send a email to [email protected]

Join MOUSECORPS 2007 - 2008

MOUSECORPS, the program that takes students far beyond the limits of their schools walls, is back!  And it wouldn’t be a MOUSE program–if there weren’t tantalizing new additions.

Each High School student that joins the MOUSECORPS program receives

  1. A paid summer internship with one of our corporate partners.
  2. Free admission to the new MOUSECORPS Field Trip.
  3. Video Game Fest.

Interested?  You should be.  But hold on, Although we’d like all High School MOUSE Squad students to apply to the program–it isn’t for everyone.

This year, the MOUSECORPS returns to its roots: It requires a full-year commitment.  Once accepted into the program, members will participate in Shadowships, p2p Training and Advanced Training.  If you’re the kind of student that’s also involved in the baseball, basketball, drama and/or other time intensive activities, it will be hard to do everything!

Click here for applications for the MOUSECORPS program.  Make sure you complete the entire application or it will not be accepted.

Summer Internship at DP&W

I know I missed my due date August 4th, but i’ve been busy with my vacation and lost track of time and what not. Anyway, I’m here now. My name is Danny Parache by the way, and I was given the great opportunity of receiving a summer internship at Davis Polk & Wardell (DPW.com). This is one of the biggest law firms in the world and has offices in Frankfurt, Germany, Tokyo, Japan and London, England. However their main office is here in NY. They offer many different fields for internships and i scored a job in the Tech Support department. The job is from 9:30am-5:30pm which is most of my day. But it’s not that bad because I work with 5 other interns whom are close to my age. I get to see how a professional tech support department operates and completes service calls and tickets. The dress attire is business casual so I can wear any kind of collar shirt and dress pants, khakis.. etc. DPW assigned interns a project this year. We are upgrading the whole building with new PCs. The office goes from 8th floor to 30th so there are many lawyers and support staff who are receiving new computers.

I’ve learned a lot so far in this internship. Like how to remain professional while on a service call. I learned there is a time for play and a time for work. Whenever we are out on the floors upgrading a Partner, Associate, Lawyer… etc’s PC we have to remain serious and professional. The techs at my job are very cool, they have been talking to me about my ideas for college and trying to help me decide what i want to do since I still have not declared a major. It’s overall a great experience and the pay isn’t half bad either. So all in all i think it’s a GREAT chance to not only make some summer cash, but if you’re into the technical field, experience a fully operational tech support department. Maybe it would be something you plan to do in the future. Anyway, I don’t want to drag this on too long. So I’ll be back to post next week guys. Have a great summer all and i’ll be back to talk about more things I learn in the job.
