We're excited to announce that for the third year in a row, Mouse and MakerBot are teaming up for our 3D Design & Fabrication program and we want YOU to apply to become part of this unique initiative for our NYC Mouse Network Members. We’ll be planting new MakerBot Replicators to grow mini BotFarms at schools with seriously creative Mouse Squads. If your Squad has ideas for 3D printing projects and can pair up with at least one STEAM-area class (STEAM = Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math), this could be you!

WHAT ARE REPLICATORS?
MakerBot 3D Replicators are desktop printers that enable users to print 3D objects created with CAD modeling software like SketchUp, Tinkercad, 123D and more. Click here to see them in action!

WHAT DO YOU GET?
Besides earning a 3D printer for their schools, successful applicants will also gain access to:

• Professional development for a Mouse Squad Coordinator & 1 subject-area teacher
• Networking opportunities with other MakerBot Squad Coordinators
• A 3D design-focused Tech Training at your site from one of Mouse’s Training Specialists
• Early registration to UnPlugged events in Spring 2014 for you and your students covering basic 3D CAD software skills

• Thingiverse, Makerbot’s online community for sharing 3D printing project ideas
• Helping Mouse and MakerBot continue to establish best practices for using 3D printing in educational settings

WHAT IS Mouse ESPECIALLY EXCITED ABOUT THIS YEAR?
We are thrilled about the brand new 3D design project Mouse will be working on with our friends at the American Museum of Natural History. This program asks students to become digital archivists for AMNH’s library, combining science, research and 3D fabrication. Four Squads from Mouse's 3D Design & Fabrication program will be selected to participate in this one-of-a-kind opportunity!

WHAT ARE THE PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS?
To participate in Mouse’s 3D Design & Fabrication program, Squads must have the support of their principal and at least one partnering staff member from a STEAM-related subject at school. Participation will be limited, and will be dependent upon alignment to the goals of your school and Mouse’s program, as indicated in your proposal (see below).

All participating sites must attend beginner MakerBot Trainings being held on January 23 and 24 (location TBD). In addition, you will be required to complete some of the tutorials and Daily Print projects from the MakerBot Education website.

WHAT SHOULD YOU DO IF YOU'RE INTERESTED?

1. First, check out MakerBot Industries and MakerBot Education online to learn more about exactly how awesome this opportunity is.
2. Then, check out these awesome 3D printing projects from schools who are currently in the program.
3. Attend the MakerBot info-session webinar on December 19 at 4PM. Click here to register!
4. Talk to fellow teachers at your school to find at least 1 MakerBot co-sponsor - pilot sites must have a Mouse Squad Coordinator paired with a science, math, engineering, or art instructor
5. Finally send an emailed proposal indicating your school's interest, and the following information to [email protected] by 5PM on Wednesday, January 8th:

• Name of your Squad's School/Site
• Coordinator's Name and email
• Subject-area partner’s name and content area
• A statement of interest (less than 250 words) describing your vision for how you’d use the MakerBot 3D printer at your school to bridge STEAM subjects with your Squad this year
• Coordinator's phone number where you can realistically be reached
• Please include "MakerBot Program" in your email's subject

WHAT'S THE DEAL WITH THAT INFO SESSION YOU JUST MENTIONED?
We will be holding an info session webinar for interested Coordinators on Thursday, December 19 at 4PM. The webinar will take place on Google Hangouts On Air, which means you MUST have a Google account to participate. Google accounts are free and easy to set up, just go to Google.com and click on "Sign In" in the upper right corner to get started. Proposals submitted by Coordinators who attend the info session will be given priority consideration. Click here to register for the info session.
