The NYC Mouse Corps Program is a leadership & technology program for amazing Mouse Squad high-schoolers seeking fun and challenging afterschool opportunities. Accepted Mouse Corps students who actively participate in The Legacy Project have the opportunity to apply their new tech skills to real, professional environments through Mouse Corps Pathways.

Through Mouse Corps Pathways, students participate in career skills building workshops and activities, 10 hours of spring job shadowships and paid summer internships with major corporations, technology startups & other organizations like Citi, Davis, Polk & Wardwell, New York City Council, the NYC Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications, New York Life, TekServe, TIME Inc., Sullivan & Cromwell, Hackasaurus with Mozilla, independent tech mentors and many others.

Pathways has 3 Phases:

Professionalism Workshops & Activities (January-March):

Students must participate in all workshops & activities to be considered for a shadowship or internship.

  • Resume & Digital Citizenship
  • Digital Portfolio
  • Networking & Interviewing
  • Presentation & Communication
  • Business Basics

Pathways students Neil and Rigel are getting Apple Certified during their summer internship at TekServe.

Job Shadowships (March-May):

Students will submit their resumes & digital portfolios and interview to be placed at 10 hours of after-school job shadowships at one of several partner organizations.

Summer Internships (July-August):

Pathways students have the opportunity to be placed at partner organizations across the city in paid summer internships. Most internships are Monday-Friday during normal work hours, and the Pathways team will meet weekly as a group for team-building and skill-building retreats.

Mouse Corps students participate in a design challenge at the New York Aquarium during the 2011 Mouse Corps Retreat where they took special characteristics from one or more sea creatures to create a new superhero or super villain!

Shadowships and internships are not guaranteed. Highly qualified candidates will have opportunities to interview for shadowships and internships. Internships will be granted on a merit-basis based on attendance, recommendations from their shadowship mentor, tech mentor or other, blogging consistently about their experience throughout the course of the year, proactive participation in the program, and upholding the values of Mouse Corps.

"Rigel was extremely positive, eager to learn, and receptive to feedback given to him. He would ask questions instead of stumbling blindly, and he was always very thorough when completing assignments. Rigel helped us out a lot by completing all projects assigned to him. We were also grateful to have his positivity and eagerness as part of our team."
