The June/July issue of Edutopia Magazine includes and article entitled, "Tech Without Support, Schools get creative when untangling PC problems" and highlights the work of a Chicago Tech Crew, powered by MOUSE and the MOUSE Squad at Robert F. Wagner Jr. Secondary School in Queens, New York. 'The student helpers are a bit like teacher's assistants or interns, says Hannah Kim, who teaches art and computers at the Robert F. Wagner Jr. Secondary School for Arts and Technology, in Queens, New York City. Though the school has a computer technician, Kim says she fills in the gaps in addition to full-time teaching duties. The Mouse Squad students and faculty are working to establish a help desk to make her job easier. "These students can assist me in troubleshooting problems like, 'My computer froze.' It won't be just me doing this alone," Kim says. "There are routine tasks that take up precious time."' Read the full story on Edutopia.

Summer Internship at DP&W

I know I missed my due date August 4th, but i’ve been busy with my vacation and lost track of time and what not. Anyway, I’m here now. My name is Danny Parache by the way, and I was given the great opportunity of receiving a summer internship at Davis Polk & Wardell (DPW.com). This is one of the biggest law firms in the world and has offices in Frankfurt, Germany, Tokyo, Japan and London, England. However their main office is here in NY. They offer many different fields for internships and i scored a job in the Tech Support department. The job is from 9:30am-5:30pm which is most of my day. But it’s not that bad because I work with 5 other interns whom are close to my age. I get to see how a professional tech support department operates and completes service calls and tickets. The dress attire is business casual so I can wear any kind of collar shirt and dress pants, khakis.. etc. DPW assigned interns a project this year. We are upgrading the whole building with new PCs. The office goes from 8th floor to 30th so there are many lawyers and support staff who are receiving new computers.

I’ve learned a lot so far in this internship. Like how to remain professional while on a service call. I learned there is a time for play and a time for work. Whenever we are out on the floors upgrading a Partner, Associate, Lawyer… etc’s PC we have to remain serious and professional. The techs at my job are very cool, they have been talking to me about my ideas for college and trying to help me decide what i want to do since I still have not declared a major. It’s overall a great experience and the pay isn’t half bad either. So all in all i think it’s a GREAT chance to not only make some summer cash, but if you’re into the technical field, experience a fully operational tech support department. Maybe it would be something you plan to do in the future. Anyway, I don’t want to drag this on too long. So I’ll be back to post next week guys. Have a great summer all and i’ll be back to talk about more things I learn in the job.
