The June/July issue of Edutopia Magazine includes and article entitled, "Tech Without Support, Schools get creative when untangling PC problems" and highlights the work of a Chicago Tech Crew, powered by MOUSE and the MOUSE Squad at Robert F. Wagner Jr. Secondary School in Queens, New York. 'The student helpers are a bit like teacher's assistants or interns, says Hannah Kim, who teaches art and computers at the Robert F. Wagner Jr. Secondary School for Arts and Technology, in Queens, New York City. Though the school has a computer technician, Kim says she fills in the gaps in addition to full-time teaching duties. The Mouse Squad students and faculty are working to establish a help desk to make her job easier. "These students can assist me in troubleshooting problems like, 'My computer froze.' It won't be just me doing this alone," Kim says. "There are routine tasks that take up precious time."' Read the full story on Edutopia.

The New MOUSE Squad eLearning

Over the last year, we've experimented with lots of tools to support our MOUSE Squads--we used a blog for announcements, mailing list software, and surveymonkey for surveys. We also introduced the MOUSE Squad Certified Technician program so that we could guarantee a consistent high-quality student experience--and the quizzes required for certification were paper-based. We heard from our community --that's you-- that you wanted to be able to keep track of things online--this site, currently a beta, is our response.

What is a beta?

Well, it's software that's still being worked on. The new MOUSE Squad eLearning site is very much a work in progress. Over the coming months (and years) we'll be adding content and new features. Our goal is to make the certification curriculum come alive online--for students, teachers and trainers. This version of the site includes the most basic features--like student quizzes for MOUSE Squad Certfied Trainers but also a "Pre-Assessment" so that you can check your knowledge on a range of tech skills and then compare them when you re-take the assessment to see how you've progressed and identify areas you still want to improve.

We're approaching building this site iteratively, which is a fancy way of saying that we're going to be making lots of little improvements over time.
